What Does Dragon Fruit Taste Like?
Dragon fruit has a subtly sweet flavor reminiscent of a blend between kiwi and pear, with a texture similar to a melon. Its flesh can range from white to deep magenta, each variety offering a unique balance of sweetness and mild acidity. Packed with nutrients and antioxidants, it's a refreshing addition to fruit salads, smoothies, and desserts.
Ingredients
Here's what you will need:
- Fresh Dragon Fruit: Provides a vibrant color, subtle sweetness, and creamy texture to the ice cream.
- Half and Half: Combines the richness of cream and milk for a smooth and creamy base.
- Condensed Milk: Adds sweetness and a luscious, velvety texture to the ice cream.
- Monk Fruit: A natural, low-calorie sweetener for balancing flavors without added sugar
See recipe card for quantities.
Possible Additions
- Lime Zest: Add for a zesty citrus contrast to the dragon fruit's sweetness.
- Shredded Coconut: Stir in for extra texture and tropical vibes.
- Chia Seeds: Mix in for a nutrient boost and a fun crunch.
- Vanilla Extract: Enhance the overall flavor profile with a hint of warmth.
How to Make Dragon Fruit Ice Cream?
- In a blender, combine dragon fruit (skin removed), condensed milk, half and half, monk fruit. Blend until smooth. Pour the blended mixture into a Ninja Creami pint container, making sure it does not exceed the max fill line.
- Place the pint container in the freezer and freeze for at least 18-24 hours.
- After freezing, remove the pint container from the freezer and place it into the Ninja Creami machine. Attach the pint holder lid and lock it into place. Select the "Lite Ice Cream" setting and let the Ninja Creami process the mixture.
- If the mixture is crumbly after the first spin, select the "Respin" function and process again until you achieve a creamy consistency. I only needed to do one additional spin.
- Scoop the dragon fruit ice cream into bowls and top with your favorite toppings, such toasted shredded coconut flakes.
Topping Suggestion
- For a pop of color and tropical vibes: diced mango, pineapple, or kiwi.
- For a textural contrast and a nutty flavor: chopped toasted almonds, pistachios, or macadamia nuts.
- Since you used coconut milk in the ice cream: toasted shredded coconut flakes.
Equipment Used
