Why This Ninja Creami Acai Bowl Is Different
Most acai bowl recipes leave you with an icy, crumbly mess. This one doesn't.
- Perfectly thick and scoopable. The Ninja Creami does what blenders can't - it transforms frozen fruit into something smooth and creamy without adding tons of liquid.
- No gums, no pudding mix, no fillers. Just real ingredients that taste like real food.
- Totally customizable. Want more protein? Done. Less sugar? Easy. This recipe flexes to fit your goals.
- Cheaper than the smoothie shop. One batch costs a fraction of what you'd pay at a cafรฉ, and it's thicker too.
- Antioxidant-packed. Acai berries are loaded with anthocyanins, fiber, and healthy fats.
What Is Acai
Acai (pronounced ah-sah-EE) is a small, deep purple berry from the Amazon rainforest in Brazil. It tastes like a mix of berries and dark chocolate - earthy, slightly tart, and not overly sweet.
You'll find it in the freezer section as frozen puree packets (I use Sambazon). These packets blend up easily and give you that classic acai bowl color and flavor. Acai powder works too, but frozen puree gives a richer, more authentic taste.

Acai Bowl vs Acai Ice Cream - What's the Difference
Honestly? Not much when you're using the Ninja Creami.
Traditional acai bowls are blended thick like soft-serve and eaten with a spoon. Acai ice cream is frozen harder and scooped. With the Creami, you get something in between - thick enough to hold toppings, creamy enough to feel like a treat.
Call it a smoothie bowl, call it acai ice cream - either way, it's delicious.
Best Ninja Creami Settings for Acai Bowls
This is where people get confused. Here's what actually works:
| Setting | Best For | Texture |
|---|---|---|
| Lite Ice Cream | Most acai bowls (my go-to) | Thick, scoopable, smooth |
| Smoothie Bowl | If your model has it | Similar to Lite Ice Cream |
| Sorbet | Dairy-free versions | Slightly icier |
My recommendation: Start with Lite Ice Cream. If it looks crumbly after the first spin, add 1-2 tablespoons of liquid and hit Respin. One extra spin usually does it.
Ingredients
- Sambazon Organic Acai Smoothie Packets- The base of everything. Frozen puree works better than powder here.
- Greek Yogurt - Adds creaminess and a little protein. Swap with coconut yogurt for dairy-free.
- Milk - I use soy milk. Oat, almond, or regular milk all work.
- Banana - Fresh or frozen. This is key for creamy texture.
- Strawberries - Fresh or frozen.
- Blueberries - Fresh or frozen. Helps with that deep purple color.
- Agave or Sweetener - Honey, maple syrup, or monk fruit all work.
See recipe card for quantities.
How to Make Ninja Creami Acai Bowl

- In a blender, combine frozen acai, banana, mixed berries, milk, and a tablespoon of agave or your preferred sweetener. Blend until smooth.

- Pour the blended mixture into a CREAMi pint container, making sure it does not exceed the max fill line. Place the pint container in the freezer and freeze for at least 24 hours.

- After freezing, remove the pint container from the freezer and place it into the CREAMi machine. Attach the pint holder lid and lock it into place. Select the "Lite Ice Cream" setting and process the mixture.

- If the mixture is crumbly after the first spin, select the "Respin" function and process again until you achieve a creamy consistency. I only needed to do one additional spin.

- Scoop the acai mixture into bowls and top with your favorite toppings, such as granola, fresh berries, sliced banana, coconut flakes, and a drizzle of honey.
3 Ways to Make It
Regular (The Classic)
Follow the recipe as written. You'll get a creamy, fruity bowl that's naturally sweet and refreshing. Great for breakfast or an afternoon pick-me-up.
High Protein
- Swap Greek yogurt for cottage cheese
- Add protein powder
- Use Fairlife milk instead of regular

Low Sugar (No Banana Option)
Banana adds natural sweetness and helps with texture, but if you're watching sugar:
- Replace banana with ยฝ avocado
- Use monk fruit or stevia instead of agave
- Skip the sweetener entirely if your acai packets are pre-sweetened
The texture might be slightly less creamy without banana, so expect to Respin once or twice.
Equipment
- Ninja CREAMi Deluxe 11-in-1 Ice Cream & Frozen Treat Maker: This will help you achieve the perfect creamy texture for your acai ice cream.
- Vitamix Blender: Perfect for blending the base to a smooth and creamy consistency.
- Pint Container: The pint container is essential for freezing and churning,
Troubleshooting Tips
Problem: It's crumbly or icy after spinning
- Add 1-2 tablespoons of milk and Respin
- Make sure you blended the base completely smooth before freezing
- Let the pint sit at room temperature for 5 minutes before spinning
Problem: It's too soft or runny
- Freeze longer (full 24 hours minimum)
- Use less liquid in the base
- Make sure your freezer is cold enough (0ยฐF / -18ยฐC)
Problem: There's a hump on top after freezing
- This happens when the mixture has too much air (common with protein powder)
- Fill below the max line next time
- It still spins fine - just be careful when inserting the pint
Problem: It tastes icy, not creamy
- Banana is your friend - it acts like a natural emulsifier
- Add a tablespoon of nut butter to the base for extra creaminess
- Greek yogurt or cottage cheese also helps
Topping Ideas
The best part of an acai bowl is loading it up. Here are my favorites:
- Fresh fruit: Sliced banana, strawberries, blueberries, mango
- Crunch: Granola, sliced almonds, coconut flakes, cacao nibs
- Creamy: Peanut butter, almond butter, cashew butter drizzle
- Seeds: Chia seeds, hemp hearts, flaxseed
- Sweet: Honey drizzle, agave, dark chocolate chips
Important: Add toppings AFTER spinning, not inside the pint.
Storage Instructions
- Leftovers: Smooth the top flat, cover with the storage lid, and refreeze. When ready to eat, let it sit for 5-10 minutes, then Respin.
- Meal prep: Make 2-3 pints at once and keep them in the freezer. Spin fresh each morning for the best texture.
- Toppings: Store separately and add right before serving.
Recipe FAQs
Lite Ice Cream works best for most acai bowls. If your model has a Smoothie Bowl setting, that works too. Respin if needed.
Yes, but frozen puree gives better flavor and color. If using powder, add 2 tablespoons of acai powder and increase the frozen fruit to compensate.
Multiply all ingredients by 0.67 (use about โ of everything). Freeze and spin the same way.
Absolutely. Use coconut yogurt and any plant-based milk. The texture stays creamy.
Use unflavored or vanilla protein powder. Cottage cheese is even better - it blends completely smooth and you can't taste it at all.

Donna says
I made this recipe and put in a quarter cup of yogurt, but I didnโt see the yogurt mentioned anywhere in the process. Just curious if I was supposed to add the yogurt to the base.๐
Rose Sioson says
Hi Donna! Yes, you did it right, the yogurt gets added to the base when youโre mixing everything together before freezing. Itโs there to help with creaminess and a little tang. Hope it turned out great for you!
